Personal & Spiritual Development

About May

My journey with personal and spiritual development started at a very young age. I remember looking up into the sky when I was 5 years old and asking myself these bizarre questions:

  • Who am I?
  • Why is my name May? Why was I born into the Chu family?
  • What makes me who I am? Why was I born in Taiwan? What kind of other places are there?
  • Who are my parents and why are they my parents?
  • Why is my twin sister my twin sister?

I cannot remember whether or not I had actually attempted to ask my parents these questions but I am sure they thought I was strange. Heck! Even I thought I had very strange questions.

I had a very turbulent childhood, my parents didn’t get along from day one and there was not one dull moment in my life since. My father left my twin sister and I when we were 7 and my mother tried to send us off illegally to the USA. This process left two 8 year old girls living on the 67th floor of a hotel in Singapore with no parental supervision for a whole month waiting to be “shipped off”. That was just one of the many exciting life stories that led me to realize—KIDS ARE SMART.

Since I thought my parents were kind of screwed up my twin sister and I became teachers for one another. From a very young age, we often sat in our room and discuss why things are the way they are and why people act the way they do.

I learned English when I moved to Canada at the age of 12. My father had immigrated to Canada wanting to give his family another chance. I saw snow for the first time, and felt the effects of discrimination for the first time. The funniest aspect about my first experiences with discrimination was the fact that I was treated poorly by another Chinese immigrant.

My first encounter with the concept of creating my own reality came from taking the Landmark Forum where I was presented with the idea that I can create “possibilities”. Due to my turbulent childhood, I had developed the belief that I had no control of my life and I practiced utilizing the concept of acceptance with everything that happens in life. At the age of 26, I was introduced to the idea that I am the creator of my own life.

Shortly after completing the Landmark Forum, I was invited to view the movie The Secret by a woman whose husband I met at a networking event. The movie had illustrated some tools and techniques of how intentions can be manifested. I went on to read the book by Ester Hicks called Ask and It Is Given, which helped to deepen my understanding of how the Law of Attraction can be applied.

After taking the Landmark Forum I decided that it was time to test this new theory of creating my reality by creating the possibility of manifesting my soul mate. NO JOKE! This manifestation project has been my biggest project so far. Please refer to the Manifesting a Soul Mate post for all the gushy details and all the insights I have gained so far regarding attracting a soul mate using the law of attraction.

Manifestation Stories was created in January 2008 as a medium for me to share my personal and spiritual development stories and insights to anyone looking for some inspiration. My intention is for you to enjoy your experience here on Manifestation Stories. Please feel free to contact me and share your comments and manifestation stories with me!
